THE THREE R's

Refinishing is Recycling, continued

As we all become more educated regarding the state of our depleting natural resources,  our team here at Cheshire Furniture Refinishing, LLC have found that individuals, families, businesses, and organizations all over the United States are making every effort to recycle whenever possible to help this cause. Cheshire Furniture Refinishing, LLC offers many services that can play a very important role concerning this very issue.  Many people don’t realize that solid wood and upholstered furniture can usually be recycled several times over before it may truly need to be discarded.  Most often, these items end up looking brand new after the restoration process is complete.

For example, we recently handled the refinishing of 80 chairs from a local assisted living facility for the elderly that is in the process
of remodeling their dining room.  These were great chairs of the highest quality and the residents loved them! So why would this facility ever think of replacing them? They made the right choice by refinishing them. We changed the color and applied a beautiful and durable new finish. Choosing the option to repair, refinish or restore existing furniture instead of buying new will not only save you a considerable amount of money (usually 50% or more), but you will be doing your part to live a “greener” lifestyle. If more individuals, families, businesses, and organizations make this choice, it will keep countless pieces of furniture from being discarded into landfills and will help prevent acres upon acres of trees from being cut down and used for the manufacturing of new furniture.

Reduce:

The goal of "Reduction" is to reduce the overall amount of new furniture our clients purchase and consume.  You might be surprised at the amount of energy and natural resources expended in manufacturing, packaging, and shipping new furniture.

Reuse:

New furniture created today is not made from the same high-quality materials that were used on your older furniture. Even if you are shopping in one of the well-known furniture stores, the life span of the furniture you will be purchasing is still going to be roughly one-third of the amount of wear and tear a solid wood piece of quality furniture could be expected to last.  This means that in less time than the new goods can be depreciated (Federal tax laws estimate about 7 years) they will need to be replaced. With refinishing, you can get another twenty years out of those sturdy, durable pieces. Keeping your original furniture in use and out of the landfill for another twenty years is great for you and for the environment.

Recycle

But what about the pieces that are outdated or have lost their usefulness? Consider doing something creative that won’t only make that piece fit your needs, but also give that piece a new personality.
