Our History
Normand LeClerc was born in Cheshire, CT, and has lived here most of his life. The son of a carpenter, Norm grew up with a love and knack for woodworking which continues to this day.
In 1985, Peter True approached Normand with a business proposal. Mr. True
was moving to Florida and offered to sell Norm his business of 14 years,
"True Refinishing." Norm had been working at Pratt & Whitney and leapt at
the opportunity to become an entrepreneur.
In 1986, Cheshire Furniture Refinishing (CFR) came into being in the garage
of the LeClerc family home on Old Waterbury Rd. At first business was slow, but, as time went on, word of mouth spread through Cheshire and all over the Connecticut area of the quality of work that CFR produced.
With an increased customer base, CFR outgrew its initial home and relocated
to 535 West Main St. More employees were taken on to alleviate the greater
demand now being placed onto CFR. The new, larger facility allowed for a new business venture into antique sales, and "Memory Lane Antiques and Furniture" was opened.
As time went on, the desire grew to own both a house and shop at the same
location. The search ended in 1991 as the LeClerc family and CFR moved
around the corner to 43 Willow St. It met Norm's needs perfectly, and to this day it remains the home of Cheshire Furniture Refinishing.

Sadly, Norm became ill in early 1997. As a result, CFR was forced to downsize and nearly closed its doors forever. As Norm was regaining his strength, and with the help of some friends from his church, CFR managed to survive this difficult time. Sometime around the year 2000, Norm's youngest son Gary, began his professional career at CFR. In 2003, Gary graduated from high school and began to work full time.
Our Present:
Norm and Gary along with several others realized that CFR could be so much more. In the late months of 2003, they began to take steps to see their vision become a reality. Since then building renovations have taken place, new equipment has been purchased, skilled employees have been hired. Norm and Gary see a bright future for Cheshire Furniture Refinishing.
Our Future:
Norm and Gary prefer to leave CFR in the hands of God, but it's never foolish to plan ahead. They would like to continue to grow, while continuing to provide the friendly and quality service that they have since 1986.
